ABOUT THE SONG

"Same Blood" is one of those tracks that’s been with me for over a decade. It all started with the guitar line, which I originally recorded into a vintage version of GarageBand via a computer mic on a MacBook loaner.

Over time, I chipped away at it, adding to the structure piece by piece. The chorus was the turning point, the moment I knew this song was worth finishing, even if it took a long time to get there.

It’s gone through many iterations, but the core of it has remained the same: raw emotion paired with a simple yet powerful melody, and absolutely love how the production brought everything together!

It's one of those tracks that’s been a constant companion on my musical journey growing into a song that tackles heavy themes of familial pain and personal accountability.

Demo // Pre-Drums // Rough Mix

Demo Version - First Point When the Song Started to Come Together! (definitely a rough cut)
Foundation Mix - The first full arrangement, before live drums complete the track!
Rough Mix - This is the mix I did with all the parts in place before being sent off to Ben!

Behind the Lyrics

The lyrics for "Same Blood" were inspired by a friend’s heartbreaking story about her relationship with her father. Growing up, she and her sister were often left alone during his custody due to his alcoholism.

Hearing that, the protective side of me came out, and lines like “she don’t like it, any more than me” flowed naturally.

The song doesn’t just speak to that one story—it’s also a reflection on how often women in my life have shared similar experiences of mistreatment, with guys getting away with it.

It’s about holding people accountable, no matter the relationship or excuses made.

Instrumental Version

Same Blood

I saw you waiting in the rain
You held your boxes
They were well soaked in pain, well
Ain't it funny how it goes
Ain't it funny how your life's on the ropes now
You're all backed up on them ropes now

So go and tell it how you'd like to
But don't try to go telling me

'Cause she don't like it
Any more than me
And she don't like it, no
Anymore than me
When you're the same blood

See I was hoping that you'd call
With all her chances
You continued to fall down
Ain't it something how it goes
Ain't it something she's the one who won't show up
I thought real hard before I showed up

So go and tell it how you'd like to
But don't try to go telling me

'Cause she don't like it
Any more than me
And she don't like it, no
Anymore than me

No she don't like it
Any more than me
And she don't like it, no
Anymore than me
When you're the same blood

Live Recording Sessions

Recording Violin with Alí Bello - Madrid, Spain

Working with Alí was amazing—I'd come to him with melodies and full string orchestra parts, and we’d build each section piece by piece. Since it was just him, he'd record each part to layer it up, creating this full chamber orchestra sound. Here’s a glimpse of one of our Zoom sessions where we worked through it all together! 🎻
